information - squads
All training sessions are held at Willowburn Pool. Swimmers need to train as often as possible every week in order to improve their stamina, speed and stroke technique. Swimmers are grouped by ability, not age. As they progress they are moved up and training intensity is gradually increased.

Swimmers are issued with record sheets to record any new PBTs (Personal Best Times) that they set. The Bagcat and Open Squads have goal sheets to encourage individual progress.

Head Coach - Chris Leighton
Assistant coach - Mary Purvis

Swimming with Minnows is for an initial 12 week period and then a reassessment will take place, reviewing attendance and progression, before a permanent place in the Minnows squad is awarded. Please also note that until your child is a full affiliated member of Alnwick Dolphins they are unable to compete in any of the swimming galas.

Squad Progression
A swimmer’s progression through the squads will be regularly assessed by their squad coaches and determined every 3 months in consultation with the "exporting & importing" coaches. Each swimmer will be required to reach a certain standard before moving on to a higher squad. Swimmers may be invited to move into the higher squad once a week to determine if they have reached the desired standard before a permanent move is made. This will also give the swimmer more confidence.

Squad Criteria
All swimmers must read, agree to, sign and return a copy of their squad criteria.
