1 How much does swimming with Dolphins cost? There is a joining fee of £50 and a nominal annual fee of £60 (under review) per swimmer to cover administrative costs. These are due 1st September each year, please see our treasurer Lindsay Brown for payment options. Swimmers will also need to pay Willowburn Leisure Centre a monthly swim membership. Please contact Willowburn Sports Centre for more information.
2 Are there any other costs involved?
Yes - All swimmers and helpers need to be registered with the ASA. Swimmers 2010 ASA fees are not included within the Dolphins fees and are currently £6.90 for Category 1, £22.50 for Catergory 2 (coaches will advise you which category the swimmers are in) and need to be payed to the treasurer, Lindsay Brown. Helpers ASA fees are paid for by the club. Competition entry fees are also paid separately, please see poolside notice board for individual competition prices.
3 When do I pay competition entry fees?
Entry fees are payable by the individual swimmer and must be made with the entry form usually a month before the date of the competition. It is essential that entries are with the Competition Secretary, Bill Cunningham, and payments are with the treasurer, Lindsay Brown, A WEEK BEFORE the closing date.
4 What is the difference between different types of competition?
- Open competitions - anyone can enter
- Graded competitions - MUST NOT have swum faster than entry time!
- County, District & National Championships - entry times needed.
5 How are teams selected?
Teams for all Galas are posted on the Notice Board & it is essential that swimmers
confirm their availability as early as possible. Teams for each League Gala are
selected by the Head Coach, on the basis of merit, although most swimmers will
generally get a swim.
6 What do I need to take to a gala?
- Take spare towels, costumes, goggles etc.
- Take plenty of suitable snacks & non-fizzy drinks, especially if there all day.
- T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms & pool shoes/clean trainers will keep you warm
- between events.
7 What should I bring to training?
In addition to the basic swimming kit please bring with you a non fizzy drink e.g.. water or energy drink. You will be training hard and you WILL need it! Please bring shorts, T shirts and trainers to club championships in case of land training activities.
8 Can anyone enter Club Championships?
Yes. The Club Championships all take part at Willowburn Sports Centre and are open to all members of Alnwick Dolphins. They are designed to help swimmers gain experience within a competitive atmosphere and are a vital part of their individual development. They are split into 2 age groups 10 and under and 11 and over. 9 Are people paid to coach or work on poolside?
No - everyone involved with the running of the club does so voluntarily.
10 How can I help out?
Just ask! There are lots of opportunities to help on poolside, giving lifts to galas,
helping at galas and other events.
