Congratulations to Christopher McDonnell who has been selected to represent Great Britain at the  Down Syndrome Swimming World Championships taking place in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada in July.

Christopher has been training with the GB squad for over a year and was part of the GB squad that was crowned European Champions at the DSISO European and Open  Swimming Championships in Paris last November. He clinched his place in the world championship squad by smashing his PB by 15 seconds(!) in the 200 Breaststroke last weekend, with a time of 4 minutes 13 seconds.

The GB medical squad have said that Christopher's achievement in swimming at this level is all the more impressive as he has heart problems that have required major open heart surgery on two occasions. He is a fantastic example of what can be achieved with hard work, determination and a supportive family.

Welcome to Alnwick Dolphins, we are a family/volunteer run competitive amateur swimming club who are set up to encourage swimmers from age 7 through to young adult to progress from swimming lessons to being able to compete on a local, regional and national level.

We are open to all potential swimmers to register their interest and will offer places to those who can meet the minimum criteria to be selected for our starter squads as places are limited per squad and should be used to encourage those with most ability.

We also take great pride in our inclusivity at the club and are delighted with the successes achieved by our disabled swimmers who are members of the Blue Fins Squad.  For example, we have a young man with Down's syndrome who competes regularly at a variety of national and international competitions with some success, and his goal is to become a member of the GB Down's Syndrome Swimming Team if he can achieve the required times.  We are working to help him achieve that goal

we are a Swim England Affiliated Amateur Swimming Club
